INDEPENDENCE 33 THEME ENCAPSULATES HOW A STABLE NATION IN UNITY CAN THRIVE AND PROSPER

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 19, 2016 (SKNIS): The Federation of St. Kitts celebrates 33 years of Independence, today, September 19 under the theme “Promoting Prosperity through Sustainability and National Unity.”

During his address to the Nation to observe its 33rd Independence Day, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, congratulated citizens and residents on this auspicious occasion, while outlining that the “ theme was chosen specifically to encapsulate how only a stable nation in unity can thrive and prosper, for the betterment of all of its citizens and residents.”

“Our land has seen struggles, hardships and battles for power going over many centuries,” said Prime Minister Harris. “Colonial powers fought for this land because it was a prized jewel. As free men and women of St Kitts and Nevis, this is a country bequeathed to us by our forefathers and we must make it our place of choice – our prized jewel.”

Jermaine Gaskin of New Pond Site, Basseterre, emerged as the winner for this year’s 33rd Independence Celebrations from some 29 themes that were submitted during the national theme competition. Mr. Gaskin has been duly recognized by the Government for his contribution. He has been issued with official invitations to all major Independence events over which the Government has control. The winning theme also has been incorporated in all official communications and events surrounding the Independence celebrations.
