Basseterre, Saint Kitts, April 01, 2026 (SKNIS): The Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis is advancing a bold and people-centred vision for the future through its National Development Planning Framework (2023–2037), a long-term strategy designed to guide the country’s growth, resilience, and prosperity over the next 15 years.
Speaking during the March 31, 2026, Sitting of Parliament, Senior Minister and Minister responsible for Economic Development and Investment, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, emphasised that the framework represents a decisive step in shaping a sustainable future for all citizens.
“I want to emphasise Madam Speaker that the National Development Planning Framework, the (NDPF), it is not just another report that is being brought to the Parliament, but it is the transformative blueprint that is guiding the development of our Federation in our own quest to become a sustainable island state, and I’m very pleased to share it with you in this Parliament today and to the citizens of our country,” said Senior Minister Douglas.
Grounded in the realities of a small island developing state, the framework places strong emphasis on resilience, innovation, and opportunity, ensuring that no citizen is left behind as the country moves forward.
“Our people, I emphasise, are our greatest asset, and this particular pillar ensures that we invest in skills, in education and opportunities that empower every single citizen to contribute meaningfully to national development,” Senior Minister Douglas added.
He further underscored that the plan is not theoretical, but actively shaping decisions and delivering results across government.
“It shows that the plan is not sitting on a shelf but is actually actively guiding decision making and action across the entire government and its departments,” he stated.
With its focus on climate resilience, green energy transformation, economic diversification, and institutional strengthening, the National Development Planning Framework reflects a shared national commitment to progress, anchored in the belief that sustainable development must translate into real improvements in the lives of the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
