Abuja, Nigeria, March 25, 2026 (PMO) – Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew has called for a deeper, more intentional approach to unity and togetherness between Africa and the Caribbean, warning that superficial alliances will not endure without strong foundations.
Speaking at the Afri-Caribbean Investment Summit in Abuja, Nigeria, March 25th, Dr. Drew challenged leaders and stakeholders to move beyond rhetoric and toward meaningful, results-driven collaboration.
The Prime Minister made it clear that unity must be rooted in shared purpose and sustained action. “Unity is not symbolism. Unity is strategy.”
He further emphasized that unity must be carefully built and protected if it is to achieve lasting prosperity. “Unity, that powerful word, should never be used for expediency, but it should be used to bring people together on the shared vision. …Without unity, prosperity becomes fragile. Without prosperity, unity cannot endure.”
He continued, “And those who use it for expediency will soon find that if it is not built on strong principles and a strong foundation, it would soon wither.”
The Prime Minister highlighted that unity must translate into tangible outcomes, including increased trade, improved mobility, stronger institutions, and greater opportunities for citizens across both regions.
He also pointed to the current reality that trade between Africa and the Caribbean remains below 1 percent, describing it not as a limitation, but as an opportunity for exponential growth.
Dr. Drew reiterated that unity and prosperity are inseparable, noting that both must be pursued simultaneously to achieve true development.
The Afri-Caribbean Investment Summit continues to provide a critical space for advancing this shared vision, with leaders working toward a more connected and prosperous future for both regions.
